I started a new job Tuesday so I wanted to make myself something useful and decided on a cover for my steno book I use to take notes at meetings. It came out pretty good, but not great. It took me a couple tries too. I think I'll stick with flat things.

April BOM
I wasn't sure if I would get a chance to do this one before the deadline but when my mom said she had already done hers and posted the picture all by herself, I figured I'd better get busy. Besides it gives me a chance to win 60 FQs of Carol Doak designed fabric. Plus it makes 14 blocks done out of 25 for my son's red, white, and black quilt. It's pretty wild if you ask me.

Blocks Galore
I took a trip to Columbus, Georgia to spend some time with my hubby before he deployed to Iraq. Since he was busy during the days preparing to leave, I took some sewing to keep me from getting bored. It was a great week and I got 6 new blocks made for my son's black, white and red quilt. So I'm up to 13. Now I've got to decide if I will make the quilt 4 x 5 or 5 x 5. I also found some really pretty BWR backing and a really good quilt shop. I had tons of fun and even got to see my daughter and grandson for 2 days. The weather was great, the company was great, the hotel was great and the sewing was great. Loved it!

Fire and Ice
I took a Mariner's Compass Star class from Carol Doak at the Hershey Quilt Odyssey in July 2007. Some ladies on the online quilting group I belong to have recently taken the class and have been posting pictures of their projects. That just motivated me to dig mine back out and put it on the list to sandwich and quilt. Sure would be nice to get last year's project done before I'm off to the Quilt Odyssey this year. This quilt is called Fire and Ice but mine is more like Sun and Sea. The center star is actually the Iceland star, block no. 12 from the Mariner's Compass Star book. My husband picked out the colors and some of the fabric, so this is another one for him.
March BOM
The latest challenge on the Carol Doak Online Quilting Group is to make the March Block of the Month and post a picture and everyone who does this before the end of the month will be entered into a random drawing with a chance to win 60 fat quarters in Carol Doak fabric. I'm using the BOMs to make a quilt for my son. He asked for Red, White and Black so that's what I'm doing. I need to make a bunch of extra blocks (besides the 12 BOMs) to make it bigger so I'll be working them soon too.
